About Crowdy-Bot
The crawler that keeps event listings up to date.
Crowdy is a free app that helps people in Toronto and Kingston decide where to go out. To keep each bar’s events current without asking every venue to type them in, a small automated reader we call Crowdy-Bot visits bars’ public event pages once a night and notes what is on: things like trivia nights, live music, karaoke, and happy-hour times. If you run a venue and found this page from your server logs, this explains what it is doing and how to change it.
What it does
Once a night, the bot reads the public event or calendar page on a bar’s own website and pulls out the plain facts: the date, the type of event, the time, and any stated prices or cover. It lists those events on the bar’s Crowdy page so people can find them. There is no charge to the venue, and the goal is simply to send more customers your way.
What it does not do
It reads only public pages that anyone can open in a browser. It never logs in, never fills in forms, never collects personal information, and never copies images. It identifies itself honestly in every request with the user agent Crowdy-Bot/1.0 and a link back to this page. It visits gently, about one read per site per night, and it respects your robots.txt file: if that file tells our bot not to read a page, we skip it. It also never reads ticketing or social platforms (such as Ticketmaster, Eventbrite, Instagram, or Facebook); for those we link out to you instead.
Correcting your listing
We only ever republish plain facts from your own public page, and we rephrase deal details into our own short wording rather than copying your writing. If something we show is wrong or out of date, email us at hello@getcrowdy.app and we will fix it. Claiming your bar in the owner portal also lets you add and edit events yourself, which then take priority over anything the bot reads. It also lets you put your own photo at the top of your page.
Opting out
If you would prefer we did not read your website at all, just ask. Email hello@getcrowdy.app from a venue address, or send the request through the claim or removal form, and we will stop the bot from reading your site. It takes effect on the next nightly run. Your bar can stay listed with the details you or your team add by hand; we simply stop reading your site automatically. You can also block us yourself by disallowing Crowdy-Bot in your site’s robots.txt.
